Class Infomation

This 3 hour hands-on workshop will give you the keys to unlocking the "exposure triangle" – aperture, shutter speed and ISO – the basic elements for every photograph. This is the perfect place to finally let go of the "auto" setting on your camera and start enjoying the artistic, eye-capturing pictures composed by the professionals. Taught outdoors in a fun and engaging environment, there are only 12 students per class, ensuring ample personal guidance and practice time. You will see some of the instructor's professional portfolio and then immediately grasp the technique used as it is explained in a simple and straightforward manner. You will go home with course materials, your own example photos in your own camera and a whole new understanding of your camera's dials, buttons and settings. As an added bonus, you will hear a simple 5 minute lesson that will instantly improve at least 60% of your pictures. You already take good photos; this class will make them better.

Classes are held to a maximum of 12 students. Additional class times are added based on demand.

Please contact me directly for private group lessons via phone, 954.417.6677, or email, tj@howdoiusemydslrcamera.com.

Description

Take your skills to the next level with this 3 hour intermediate-level adventure in photography. As we make our way through the urban jungle of chic downtown Ft. Lauderdale, you will learn to capture light like a professional – a sunset, a sunrise, the gentle, glowing holiday lights or the big, bright city lights. You already know how to reach aperture-priority and shutter-priority settings on your camera, now learn to take photographs in full manual mode, explore high ISOs and delve into b&w photography without fear of dark shadows and dimly lit subjects. Please wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for a walk around town (about 1 mile) as we roam in search of subject matter and light to capture. Class is capped at 10 students.

Description

So you're feeling comfortable with f-stops and shutter speeds but that is just the exposure. What about the arrangement of the objects in your photo — the composition? Are the elements properly placed? Do they enter and the exit the edge of the photo properly? Are the viewers eyes reading the story you wanted to tell? If not, you need to enhance your composition.

Come on a photography scavenger hunt with your instructor, T.J. Gillespie, while you seek out a dozen photographic compositions. T.J. will debrief you on the compositions you'll be hunting for and then guide you along on your quest for photographic treasure. Some of the jewels we'll be searching for are Balanced Elements, Symmetry, Leading Lines, View Point and more…

Sign up quick as class is limited to 6 crew members which means there will be plenty of time to learn the ropes from your captain.

100% Approval!

The reviews on Groupon.com keep coming in and I'm still at 100% approval rating! Here is a screenshot from my Groupon Merchant center:

This class was great and TJ the instructor was awesome! He explained all the "technicalities" I normally have a hard time understanding, in a way that I could easily understand and put to use in my future as a photographer. I highly recommend TJ!! He is really, really good!!

I've been a trainer and a teacher for much of my life and you did great.

– John Morn

TJ is awesome! He is really good about teaching you about THE CAMERA and maybe telling you his idea about artistic composition but he truly understands that if it looks good to you, it must be great :) I have had my DSLR for a few years and I never used it b/c it didn't do what I wanted. I took my camera out the next day and am pretty excited to keep using it b/c now it is doing what I want it to! would highly recommend to anyone who doesn't know their camera well or who uses the program mode--you just spend hundreds of dollars on a camera so learn how to use it.

Thank you very much for the class. We both came away learning so much more than we had expected in a two hour course! I only wish I had done this sooner...I can't believe I have had my DSLR camera set on auto for 5 years! So excited to practice some of the things we learned, and look forward to taking more classes to build on what you taught us.

Happy Holidays!
