A fast 1/2000 of a second shutter speed ensured nothing was blurryWhat is shutter speed in photography?
Shutter speed is a measurement of time expressed in seconds and determines how long the shutter will be open during a single photograph.
1/250 represents one-two-hundredths of a second, 1/8 represents one-eighth of a second and 4 would be four seconds.

A slow shutter speed of 1/50 of a second can create a sense of motion. What does shutter speed do?
Shutter speed controls how long light will be exposed to the camera’s sensor and will determine if your photo is properly exposed, underexposed or overexposed.

A even slower shutter speed of 1/15 of a second to add motion to slower moving subjects. What is shutter priority?
Shutter priority is a setting that tells your camera to keep the shutter speed set at a fixed speed (duration of time) regardless of how much or how little light you are photographing in. Only the aperture, and on some cameras, ISO will change in the camera’s effort to properly expose the photograph.

High frame rates are possible at a fast shutter speed of 1/1000 of a second. Why would I photograph or take photos in shutter priority mode?
There are a many answers as to why you would take pictures in shutter priority. In the photography class we will answer that question by photographing action. Fast shutter speeds stop action whereas slow shutter speeds can give a sense of movement to the photo. We will also explore how slow / long a shutter speed should be before a tripod should be considered.
